Manage a SCALANCE ring and verify a link failure This prepared lab has three SCALANCE switches in a ring and two routers for traffic checks. Open the first switch's Web UI to inspect its settings. Confirm the model and software version on the Versions page. Set a descriptive system name and apply it with Set Values. Inspect Ports to see which physical links are up. LLDP identifies the neighbouring switches and the ports that connect them. Choose manager mode and the two connected ring ports, then apply the settings. A closed ring blocks one manager port to prevent a loop. The terminal reports the same ring status and blocked port. First, confirm that the two endpoint routers can reach each other. Shut down one ring port on a different switch to simulate a link failure. The port row and its LED now reflect the shutdown. The manager reports an open ring and releases the blocked port. Traffic still reaches the far router through the remaining path. Restore the same port to close the ring again. The manager restores its loop-prevention block, and the endpoint test still succeeds. Save All Configs stores the running configuration for every device in this lab. Review the saved startup configuration, including the system name, ring mode and ports. Reopen the lab from My Labs and confirm that the saved ring settings are retained. These checks show simulated recovery; they do not measure packet loss during the transition.
