The English narration in this video. Select a time to watch that moment.

  1. Stateless address autoconfiguration lets an IPv6 interface learn its address from a router advertisement.

  2. This lab connects router one and router two, with a prepared destination on another IPv6 network.

  3. On router one, enable IPv6 routing and give the connected interface a prefix length of sixty-four bits.

  4. Bring the interface up so the router can advertise this prefix on the link.

  5. On router two, enable autoconfiguration on the matching interface.

  6. Add the default keyword when this router should also learn the advertised default route.

  7. The client now has its own global IPv6 address, alongside its link-local address.

  8. Neighbor discovery identifies the advertising router on the connected link.

  9. The route marked N D is the learned default, using the advertising router as its next hop.

  10. Ping a destination outside the local prefix to verify that the learned default forwards traffic.

  11. The bare autoconfig command keeps address learning enabled without installing the advertised default route.

  12. Restore the default option, and keep a separate manual address on this interface.

  13. Save the configuration, then reopen the lab to verify that the configured mode is retained.

  14. The reopened client has its learned address and default again, and the remote destination remains reachable.

  15. Removing autoconfiguration removes the learned address and default, while preserving the manual address.

  16. Choose address learning alone, or include the default option when the lab also needs the advertised default route.
